ASEAN INFLUENTIAL AWARD 2026 TO BE HELD 16 MAY, DRAWING STRONG INDUSTRY SUPPORT!
Held on 11 February, the briefing drew about 120 participants from the corporate sector, professional institutions, trade chambers and the media, signalling broad-based support for the initiative as it positions itself as a cross-border recognition and collaboration platform.
Organised by the International Strategic Institute, the choice of venue was far from coincidental, as organizers noted that MATRADE represents the essential bridge between public sector policy and private sector growth, aligning with the award's mission to foster international trade and regional economic cooperation.
A wide range of chambers and social organizations were present in support of the initiative, including the Malaysia Shandong Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia International Trade Promotion Council, Malaysia Health, Wellness and Beauty Council, Malaysia International Commerce, Culture and Arts Facilitation Association, Malaysia Philippines Chamber of Commerce, Biz Union Association, International Grafinity Association, Pink Power Global Malaysia and the Malaysia Extraordinary Women Innovation Association.
The diversity of participating organizations spanning trade, culture, healthcare, and women’s development underscored the inclusive and cross-sectoral nature of the ASEAN Influential Award platform.
Speaking at the event, ASEAN Influential Award Organizing Committee Chairperson Lim Shiek Ni emphasized that the Award is not merely a recognition of achievement, but a reflection of responsibility, long-term contribution, and positive societal impact.
She noted that the initiative aims to honor individuals and organizations that consistently create value for both industry and society, while setting trusted benchmarks for ASEAN’s future development.
Meanwhile, Vice President of the International Strategic Institute Dr. (H.C) Johny Yap Weng Onn stated that the ASEAN Influential Award was established to recognize leaders and organizations that transcend national boundaries, balancing business success with social responsibility.
By connecting resources across countries and industries, he added, the platform seeks to encourage cross-border and cross-sector collaboration aligned with ASEAN’s principle of ‘unity in diversity’.
Founder and President of the International Strategic Institute Dr. Gavin Voon Shih Chin highlighted that the Institute’s core positioning is “empowering industry internationalization through education.”
Through education, research, and platform-building initiatives, the Institute seeks to enhance entrepreneurial understanding, connect regional and global resources, and support enterprises in expanding internationally in a structured and sustainable manner.
He described the ASEAN Influential Award as a practical extension of this mission, promoting collaboration among government, business and academia while nurturing leaders capable of delivering long-term regional impact.
