MALAYSIAN FIRMS UNITE IN AMBITIOUS BID TO DISRUPT GLOBAL COLLAGEN INDUSTRY!
AUSTRALIA-listed health and wellness company, Holista Colltech Limited has entered a strategic partnership with Swang Chai Chuan Limited., through the establishment of Ovicol Pty Ltd., marking a significant step towards expanding into the fast-growing global collagen, biotechnology and medical wellness industries.
Through a 50:50 joint venture, both companies will establish a state-of-the-art sheep nano-collagen production facility in Collie, Western Australia, marking a significant milestone in their expansion from regional success to international markets.
Holista Colltech, listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: HCT), is known for its science-based biotechnology solutions, while SCC, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX:2321), brings strong expertise in distribution, logistics and consumer market networks.
The collaboration also capitalises on Australia’s status as home to the world’s only sheep flock certified as scrapie-free and classified as having negligible BSE risk by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). This disease-free status is expected to strengthen global confidence in the sheep-derived collagen products.
In addition, sheep nano-collagen is seen as having a major advantage in international markets due to its culturally and religiously neutral positioning, making it a more universally accepted “Halal” alternative for consumers worldwide.
Holista Chairman, Mr. Lai Kwok Kin said the partnership represented a powerful synergy between two companies with different but highly complementary strengths.
“What is happening today is very heartening because two Malaysian companies with different strengths have come together. Holista has a strong track record in collagen development and now with nanonization, we believe the products will become even more attractive and valuable for global markets,” said Lai through ‘live streaming’ address at the official Signing Ceremony between Holista represented by its Executive Director & CEO, Mr Leong Man Loong and Mr. Soon See Beng as Chairman, Executive Director & CEO for Swang Chai Chuan Limited, held at PJ Centre, Kuala Lumpur recently.
Also witnessing the signing ceremony was several industry representatives and guests including Datuk Nadzim Johan, widely known as Toqqi, who is the Chief Activist of the Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM); Founder & Director of Holista, Dato Dr. Rajen Manicka and the CEO of Regenerex Pharma, Gregory Pilant from USA who also joined through ‘live streaming’.

Speaking further, Lai expressed appreciation to Leong Man Lung for helping structure and drive the joint venture discussions, while welcoming SCC as Holista’s new strategic joint venture partner.
He further said, Holista saw SCC’s extensive distribution capabilities as a major strategic advantage for future commercial expansion.
“For Holista, what we look for in SCC is its distribution power and network. I sincerely hope today marks an exciting new chapter for both companies and that we can grow together,” added Lai.
The company said its biggest breakthrough lies in its proprietary ovine collagen technology, claiming Holista is currently the only company in the world capable of harvesting collagen from sheep skin through a specialised patent-pending process.
Holista highlighted that sheep-derived collagen offers major cultural and commercial advantages because sheep are universally accepted across different religions and communities, making the product halal-friendly and more inclusive for global consumers.
Australia’s disease-free sheep resources and internationally recognised biosecurity standards were also described as key advantages in ensuring safety, purity and traceability.
The company further revealed that nanotechnology has become a major driver behind its latest innovations, with collaboration support from NanoMalaysia helping enhance its proprietary delivery systems and product efficacy.
Meanwhile, Soon See Beng described the partnership as more than just an investment, saying it reflected the group’s long-term vision to diversify into innovative, high-value sectors with strong global growth potential, particularly within health, wellness and biologics.
Soon said the company strongly believed future business growth would depend on innovation and diversification into emerging industries capable of delivering sustainable long-term value.
He added that SCC was impressed not only by Holista’s scientific capabilities and proprietary collagen technology, but also by the management team’s vision towards international commercialisation and expansion.
“The global demand for collagen-based products continues to grow rapidly across skincare, beauty, wellness and biomedical applications. At the same time, consumers are increasingly focused on safety, traceability, sustainability and halal-friendly solutions,” he noted.
According to Soon, SCC intends to play a role beyond financing by becoming a strategic commercial partner capable of supporting market expansion, customer management and regional distribution for Ovicon products in Malaysia and beyond.
Accordingly, Holista also revealed that its production facility in Collie, Western Australia is expected to become fully operational by the end of this year, serving as the company’s main ovine collagen production hub to meet growing international demand.

The company further disclosed plans to secure a global wound-healing partnership with Regenerex Pharma from the United States, whose management team is reportedly progressing towards a NASDAQ listing.
Holista’s wound-healing solution is currently undergoing clinical trials, with each trial taking approximately three months to demonstrate successful wound recovery.
Beyond wound healing and beauty products, the company sees major growth opportunities in research-grade collagen production due to current global shortages.
According to Leong Man Loong, the company believes that with SCC’s distribution strength and growing support from international medical partners, the joint venture is well-positioned to compete in the rapidly expanding collagen and regenerative medicine sectors over the coming years.
